How do you produce a great record?
In a great environment.
Vibe goes a along way in helping you conjure those magical performances. We offer a down to earth, friendly, comfortable, relaxed and inspiring environment in which focus & creativity can flourish – and it does ! While recording at Magnet you’ll share the facility with a wider community of practicing musicians and sound artists who together form a stronger creative resonance.
With great people
Of course you’ll bring yours with you ! Our engineers are here to welcome you into the studio, listen to your ideas and support you along the way. Oh, and of course we are also technically literate, super experienced and have great ears too.
While we offer a terrific range of modern, vintage & custom made equipment, we believe our real strength is in knowing how to best implement the tools available at hand. Empowered by this idea, we revel in absurd, experimental & innovative recording techniques.
In a great space
We reckon this is more important than the gear – after all, what’s a recording but a representation of a series of sonic moments gathered and expressed in space over time right ? We proudly offer a diverse, complementary, purpose-built and musical assortment of performance spaces which can be appropriated to best realise your overall vision.
The Bunker is a live, firm & bright sounding space with a tight slapback ambience. The 150mm thick concrete walls are perfect for capturing larger-than-life drum sounds.
The Cave is slightly more diffuse, with some odd angles and a mixture of diffusion and absorption. Great for bass / guitar amplifiers, horns & additive room capture.
The Isolation Booth is confined, angular & incredibly absorbent – perfect for dry vocals and tight guitar sounds.
The Spatial Studio
Live, Light, Expansive, Reflective and Resonant – this is an incredibly unique purpose-built performance, recording and reamplification studio, with 24 sends and 8 returns to and from the control room.
Ample natural light illuminates this 8m x 10m concrete & plaster studio. Hanging from the 6.5m ceiling on one side of the studio are wool drapes which can be drawn or opened to further subdue or excite the ambience. Either way, you’ll probably be finding yourself turning your reverb units down.
The generous acoustical environment of the Spatial enhances both acoustic and amplified instruments, by providing ample air within which your sound may develop, encouraging your music to breathe.
The large space available enables both a wide variety of ensembles & recording methods.
The Control Room is an asymmetric 5 sided room offering 32 IO, ProTools HD, a 1982 Midas TR-04 mixing console, monitoring by Genelec, Yamaha and Auratone, and ample routing options between the performance spaces via a patchbay.
